After Laurie Lee comes Philip Brown! Instead of fiddling his way around Spain, Philip painted and drew his way, not on foot but in an ancient VW camper and, like Laurie Lee returned a year later, not to fight in a war, but with his Swedish wife and two youngest daughters to live in El Escorial in the Guadarramas.

Norman Trilogy
Price: £ 16.50
The Norman Trilogy tells of the influences the Normans had on East Sussex coast before, during and after the Conquest. The first book Conquest Country explores the innovative theories of Nick Austin postulating that William sailed up from Bulverhythe up to the Port of Hastings below Wilting Manor Farm where he erected his portable forts. This accords better with the manuscripts recounting the Battle, and even with the Bayeux Tapestry. There is also a re-enactment of the actual battle as well as psychic confirmation of his ideas.

Tells of King Charles the First`s time at Oxford during the years of the Civil War 1642-1646, when he lived at Christ Church (my old college), with his Court and held his Parliament in the Great Hall. Meanwhile, his Queen Henrietta Maria (when not travelling abroad to gather aid for his cause), lived in Merton College next door but one to Christ Church. Special doorways had been made in the walls separating them by her loving husband, so that he could visit her.
